Bangers and mash are really just sausage and mash potatoes…and it’s a good little combo!!
Bubbles and squeaks are just cabbage and potatoes…cuz they bubble and squeak when you cook them!
The English have a 7th food group….baked beans….and apparently you can't have too many servings in any given day….only they aren't the good kind - like the Bush's Baked bean….they say they are Heinz - but I think it might be false advertising since they don't taste nearly as good as any Heinz baked beans I've ever had.
European rule of thumb…if it can fit on a baguette - then it’s a meal
Coco Puffs in England do not taste as sweet as in the US
Coco Puffs in Milan do not taste as sweet as in the US
Coco Puffs in Germany taste just fine
When someone offers you a piece of hard candy in Germany…don't take it…it tastes like meat…and not a good meat…learned that one the hard way
Germans make a very delicious Kangaroo steak
Germans don't do Chinese or Italian cuisine so well, Italians don't know jack about making a crepe….i suppose just stick to what you know...
England has some of the best Indian food in the world!
Eating in the dark is a very interesting experience as I discovered with a few friends the other night. There is a restaurant that boasts a theme of dining in the dark…they employ blind waiter staff and the concept is sort of 'A meal in the life of' and it is, ironically, a very eye opening experience
When the word kidney is on the menu….9 out of 10 times, they don't mean the beans…those are not good odds…just pass
The English make great Belgian Waffles - they sell them on the street…its like the UK equivalent of hot dog vendors on the street.
When in England….eat everything with a fork and knife…even the finger food
Apparently the concept of ice has not made it back over the pond….its like gold here and they look at you like you've gone mad when you ask for ice with your beverages…like ice water….bazaar
Yorkshire pudding didn't come from York or a shire anywhere near it and it is not pudding….but it is good! It's a bun or roll smothered in gravy.
They don't have yellow mustard here…they have spicey, dijon, some sort of mustard/mayo combo, and brown mustard….but no yellow mustard.
They sell curry at Subway in the UK
They sell pickled gherkins in Germany and the UK…um…what part of the gherkin wasn't pickled enough?
Fries in the US are chips in the UK
Chips in the US are Crisps in the UK
Crisps in the UK come in flavors like roasted chicken, lamb and fennel, steak and potatoes, curry, paprika, and even prawn
Prawns in the UK are what they call cocktail shrimp in the US…but they are REALLY little…if they're big, they call them giant prawns, which is about the size of a jumbo shrimp in the US
Parisian pastries seem to have a lot cocoa powder dusted on them…in my opinion - that is a total waste of a good pastry! Keep it sweet!! I thought that was the whole point of a pastry!!
Bon appetite!!
