Oh wait, though - so I am guessing a few...or more than a few...of you are on pins and needles to hear how the Match thing is going, so I will let know about that before I tell you of my other little adventures.
Stats to date:
15 days online 123 'hits' on my profile to date 7 'winks' sent to me 5 winks returned 3 emails sent to me 2 emails responded to 2 emails sent to new guys from me 1 email response to me
And a few of the candidates are....
An Irish lawyer that said he was 42, but his picture looked about 62...aren't you supposed to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?
A publisher who has 3 kids and is 'going through a wonky divorce for the cow that was his wife'...his words not mine.....um...bitter, party of 1...maybe we aren't in the good place yet, so shouldn't be out there in the dating game...just a thought...
A professor of science...I'm not judging here, but his picture creeped me out....kind of looked like a skeevy crazy uncle who is a bit too touchy feely and that you wouldn't want to invite to a Christmas party with liquor...just a first impression there....
Another professor...hope they don't work together....of computer science, seems nice, picture not scary, no kids, no ex-cows, 39, has a good sense of humor, seems nice (as nice as you can glean from an email) and likes to golf. We are emailing...I'll let you know how that goes.
Also emailing a financial analyst. He seems a bit stuffy, little to know sense of humor, so we may have some problems there.
So that about sums up the Match thing thus far. While there are quite a few crazies looking for love, there also seems to be a lot of nice, down to earth guys just looking to meet someone. This was a pleasant surprise...and a total contradiction to my preconceived notion of a bunch of lonely guys with no social skills and strong attachments to their mother looking for a way to meet women that would have no idea how bizarre they actually were....
So on to my other latest adventures....
So my friend Josh has one of his best friends - Mandy - from back home in town to visit for a few days. Yesterday the 3 of us decide to take a little trip to Hampton Court - one of the homes of Henry the 8th. Also, it has an incredible hedge maze that we planned to get lost in for a few hours!
Hampton Court...on paper...should be a relatively easy place to get to. Take the tube to the Waterloo station (south London) then get a train to the Surrey station (about a 35 minute journey) then a 10 minute walk to the palace.
HA!!!!
2 and a half hours later, all we had to show for our efforts was coffee and a couple Krispy Kreme donuts!
So where did it all go wrong?
We meet up around noon and make our way to the tube station. While on the tube, we hear an announcement about a switch problem and no trains going in or out of Waterloo.
hmmmm....interesting....but we are already on the train.
So we decide to just stay on - its only 2 stops - and see what we find at the station.
What we find is some sort of small fire at one of the stations, so there aren't any trains going in or out of Waterloo. But we are told that we can probably get a train from Paddington...the station 2 blocks from my flat.
So off we go back to Paddington. On our way there, Josh mentions he has a craving for Krispy Kreme anyway, so this works out well.
We get to the station and make our way to donut heaven...we didn't want to run into a situation where the train was leaving in 2 minutes and then we missed out on getting a donut, so donut first, then onto the ticket booth...priorities, kids, don't judge us!
Donuts and milk in hand, we go over the the ticket booth...long line!!! So we decide to try our hand at the automated ticket machine. I find the right stop, but then we are presented with 4 different types of tickets....huh...that seems a bit excessive, and e had no idea the difference between them...so back to the long line we go.
We get to the booth and tell the not so pleasant ticket man where we want to go. He fires off a string of instructions on how to get there....a mix of tube stops and trains that we would need to take only if we were in some foreign film trying to loose the rogue KGB tail following our every move!!
Um....excuse me happy boy, can you break that down for us? So he repeats - thankfully a bit slower - the instructions and tells us, basically that there is a fire in the Richmond station and that the trains aren't leaving from Paddington either, but to go to Wimbledon and get one from there. Wimbledon being in southwest London...it is now about 1:45.
So off to Wimbledon we go...we are on a mission now!!!
13 tube stops and one tube transfer later, we hit the Wimbledon station. As we pull in, though, we notice that there are many different platforms...all empty. We convince ourselves that this is most likely for use during the the Wimbledon Matches only...what with the influx of so many spectators and all.
Oh, and I should mention that we noticed, while on the tube to Wimbledon, that Richmond (which we weren't sure of) was located not to far from Wimbledon.
So we get off the tube and go into the station...oh yeah...you guessed it...only to find that in fact ALL trains in the London area are suspended due to this little fire in Richmond!!! The helpful train guy did inform us that we could take a local train, get about half way there and then take a local bus from there, and with weekend traffic, it would only take about 2 hours!!!
So we make a little stop at the loo and then grab some coffee for the return trip.
Hampton Court - you are my new nemesis!!! I do not think you exist!!
As we walk outside for our return trip...yeah...you guessed it....its now raining.
21 tube stops later, we make it to our new destination - Tower of London.
We explored around the area for awhile and then onto London Bridge and the Shakespeare Globe Theatre.
It rained pretty much on and off for the rest of the day, but we had fun none the less...although, it seems like a bit much just for a Krispy Kreme and some coffee....
